coffin fly

I am super hard to please when it comes to rockabilly. I grew up on it, I play it, I live it, and there's SO MUCH generic sounding Stray Cats/cartoon crap out there to filter through.

COFFIN FLY immediately caught my attention with the artwork on this EP and upon first hearing "THE BLEND" I was sold.

Taking more from Memphis era Cramps recordings and Gene Vincent than Demented Are Go or any of that shit, these guys know what's up.

MUSIC /// LEE ROSS - THE MUMMY'S BRACELET

I can't find any info on this track anywhere, so if one of you kids out there knows something, please let me know.

What I can tell you is that this is one creepy, low swung tune about a man who steals the bracelet from a mummy in a museum to give to his beloved wife, only to face the full force of said mummy's revenge.

Serious shit.

If I had to guess I'd say this was recorded around 1958.

MUSIC /// KIP TYLER - SHE'S MY WITCH

KIP TYLER was a nobody, basically. Recorded a good amount of music, but never went anywhere.

He did, however, create one of the greatest rock n' roll songs of all time.

"SHE'S MY WITCH" has attitude. It has low slung guitar confidence.

This song permeates rebel bravado that is scarcely found in rock n' roll music these days.

Listen to it and let it slink it's way around your brain.

MUSIC /// THE HUMMS - LEMONLAND

I really cannot put into words how much I like this album.

It's diverse, it's raucous, it's weird, it's catchy, it's well recorded, it's fucking fantastic.

THE HUMMS are an Athens, GA outfit spearheaded by wild haired country boy Zeke Sayer. Zeke runs his own recording studio in a former theme park, making it a ghost town of sorts and you can hear that haunted Scooby Doo sound coming through on this album.

The opener "BLOODSUCKING VAMPIRE" sets the tone for the record with it's frantic "something is chasing me and it's fun" vocals and warbly eerie guitar lines.

Every song on this slab is a winner. And it's got 18 songs.

Grab yerself a copy of the LP below.

MUSIC /// NEW SCIENCE PROJECTS

NEW SCIENCE PROJECTS is a grizzly dude from Texas making raw as fuck acoustic rock n' roll, usually just backed by drums or simple percussion.

The songs are solid and this cats voice makes everything sound like it might be the end of the world.

Check it.

jungle rot mixes /// rockabilly

In a few recent reviews of my band, Waylon Thornton and the Heavy Hands, the reviewers have called me a hillbilly. Some have even gone as far as to say that the hillbilly influence in my music is what keeps me from getting anywhere.

Well, fuck that. I like hillbilly music. I love my endearing redneck family and neighbors. Since moving out of the cluster fuck of a city that is Gainesville, FLA, I've seen a decrease in migraines and my general disposition is good.

That being said, I wanted to make a mix of some hillbilly music that I like and share it. These are some old old rockabilly songs and a few newer things in there.

JANIS MARTIN, BLOODSHOT BILL, TRINI LOPEZ, ROY ORBISON, ETC...
Check it out and if you dig it, lemme know. I'd like to make more of these.

bloodshot bill /// some weird french shit

Bloodshot Bill is in Paris right now on tour and some French website made this video/interview of him. It's totally cool and totally in English. The website, however, is all in French and made me feel like a moderate retard. Just click the big "PLAY" button.

Also, Bloodshot Bill will be doing a free digital single for my label, White Moon Recordings later in the year. For more on that, check out the White Moon Recordings blog (http://www.whitemoonrecordings.com)
