From what I can tell BLEEDING KNEES CLUB is a duo from the UK. They've got the garage thing going on, but the songs are actually there. Catchy, well produced, and just flat out good.
Recommended if you like HARLEM, TY SEGALL, JACUZZI BOYS.
This release came to me a while back and I've been playing it a lot, but it hit me at the peak of my "can't take it anymore" blog freak out, so whatever.
Mega lazy awesome sounding garage rock. Not sure where these dudes are from, but seriously, download this album. If you're into the whole slinky rock n' roll thing of 20__ then this is crucial for yuhh.
If you send me music and I decide to post it but can't find an image to post with it, I go and find something. This is what you get. A giant fucking rat man. Deal with it.
Anyways, TAXRAT is a group of kids/men/trannies (I have no clue, the e-mail didn't specify) playing give no shit swaggery garage rock n' roll.
At first I was skeptical about DIRTY BEACHES, but this new album is changing all of that.
I suggest you go pick up BADLANDS asap. It's about as low fidelity as you can get, sounding like it was recorded on a Radioshack tape player, but the medium works great for these surf guitars and minimal beats.
There's sampling and electronics going on in here, but it's all mixed in so well that it doesn't sound like some pussy electro bullshit.
I would almost dare to say that I prefer THE TROGGS over THE KINKS. The guitars are more sinister, the vibe is more sinister, and overall it's more raw.
This track, "FROM HOME" is a fine example of the darker sound of THE TROGGS earlier singles.
Hailing from Brisbane (Australia's third-most populous city, fact fans!), Cobwebbs, despite their oh-so-hip repeated-letter name (see; Wavves, Nodzzz, anyone from the West Coast with a Macbook and a trust fund) sound like they would be more at home on a copy of Nuggets left to warp in Hell than sipping Corona Light by the pool.
"Chase You Around" is the dirtiest, most primal tune to come out of Oz since, in my humble opinion, The Birthday Party. What could be higher praise than that?
Got a bottle and my significant other is at band practice, what else am I to do?
Another post ye say? Well don't twist my arm or anything.
THE EVIL HOODOO
Weird garagey/noisy lo-fi mess from Japan. Go figure. On Mangrove Records (a Japanese label) and apparently distributed in the Ol' Usa by the purveyors of the noisy and the lo-fi, K Records. Again, go figure. This is the kind of music you wish you listened to in high school so that you could REALLY annoy your parents.
BALKANS is a band from Atlanta making nice sloppy pop rock n' roll. At times bands like THE UNICORNS come to mind but then sometimes I can hear THE STROKES in there. The production of the recordings is a little more high fidelity than some of the lo-fi punks bouncing around now a days and that's refreshing.
This is a solid band with solid songs.
Anybody looking for a way to "ease" into this whole lo-fi garage barage that is taking over music as we know should look at this band as a gateway drug.
TEA ELLES is a badass band. I've never seen them live, but their sound is one of twisted psychedelia and trashy punk rock.
I'm way into this new tribe of bands with GUITAR PLAYERS. Bands with guitarists who aren't scared to whip out a riff or a solo or wild ass feedback. TEA ELLES is one such band, making as much racket as they can wring out of their fucked up strangs.
the Jameses, from west palm beach/lake worth FL, sport one of the most appropriate band titles ever. the founders are both named dan james. think of them as a 60's garage band with awesome synths and loopy loops. (great live shows, btw)
they are releasing a 7-inch soon, i'm ordering one for sure. a track is up on the myspizz page, so check it out.
Vancouver's DEAD GHOSTS are jamming things out with swagger. Loooads of swagger. The songs on their Myspace page scream of Nuggets gems and spaghetti westerns. "BLAK KAT" keeps things pumping with a Gories style beat and plenty of reverbed squawking. These guys are a band I'm definitely watching and I can't wait for a full length.
They have a few 7"'s out and one is a split with THE SMITH WESTERNS (cool, right?).
Also, there is a live set available through THUNDERINGFEET. Grab that below.
California's AUDACITY have uploaded what appears to be a new song, called "NO FUTURE". The song is 60's influenced than the songs on POWER DROWNING and it's totally raw and fun.
These guys are seriously on the ball, as POWER DROWNING is one of the coolest albums I've heard in a while.
Head to their Myspace and check out the new track, dudes.
MIND SPIDERS is one of the guys from MARKED MEN making 50's esque garage pop thangs. It's catchy, fun to listen to, and doesn't annoy me. There is a MIND SPIDERS 7" available from the solid DIRTNAP RECORDS now. Geeet it.
