smokey

Dark and moody white boy blues in the vein of Bill Callahan.

This music is vibing with me right now because of the terror which has stricken the South (via 150 freak tornadoes destroying most of Alabama and terrorizing just about everyone else in the South-East) and I hope you'll all keep the Southerners in your thoughts and prayers.

MUSIC /// LEE ROSS - THE MUMMY'S BRACELET

I can't find any info on this track anywhere, so if one of you kids out there knows something, please let me know.

What I can tell you is that this is one creepy, low swung tune about a man who steals the bracelet from a mummy in a museum to give to his beloved wife, only to face the full force of said mummy's revenge.

Serious shit.

If I had to guess I'd say this was recorded around 1958.

MUSIC /// ORPHEUS KNOXX

ORPHEUS KNOXX brings a refreshing perspective on the current 80's goth revival, opting for natural instrumentation ala post-punk bands such as JOY DIVISION and THE CURE.

"ICE CREAM" displays a lush, yet subtle instrumentation with classically UK female vocals.

Sweet like C86 twee, but wrapped in a button down cardigan black as pitch.

MUSIC /// SEALINGS

With an atmosphere all dark, dreary, and throbbing, SEALINGS provide the soundtrack for a late night ex-lover revenge session.

Layers of distorted vocals, mud glazed guitars, and keyboard thumps.

"AWESOME GHOST" is a grimy stand out track.

MUSIC /// PARIAH CAREY

Do you need music to sit in an abandoned crack house and cry to?

Did the shadow man come to you in your sleep last night and pin you to your bed and whisper ancient secrets about Heaven and Hell to you in Aramaic?

Can you turn your head completely around like an owl and sometimes fuck yourself with a crucifix?

If you answered yes to any of these, you need to hear PARIAH CAREY.

Electronic music generally isn't my thing, but PARIAH CAREY (aka Jheri) has turned it into a ritualistic slaughter house of minimal creaks and groans.

It makes me feel like I need to open my Bible before I go to bed.

Give this a listen, but keep looking behind you to make sure Cerberus isn't about to fuck your shit up.

MUSIC /// Gem Club

GEM CLUB sounds to be only 2 or 3 people, with a very minimal, stripped down sound, featuring sparse piano and violin.

To be honest, I listened to the first 3 songs and then, without realizing, had been making myself increasingly sad, but it was so beautiful I couldn't stop listening.

Listening to GEM CLUB is like losing a relative, but being happy because they're in a better place.

Give their album, "ACID AND EVERYTHING" a listen.
