rattlers

This Chicago band is all over the "heavy" spectrum. Sounds ranging from early 90's emo to Lightning Bolt-esque beaters, to Melvins' style dirges.

Good shit.

cop city/chill pillars

GO BUY THIS RECORD, SERIOUSLY.

One of the best bands to come out of Florida in recent (and probably all) history.

Grab it from FLORIDA'S DYING.

thee oh sees - castlemania

New THEE OH SEES album dropping on June 14th through IN THE RED. Supposedly it will be more "laid back" and "sunny", hearkening back to "COOL DEATH OF ISLAND RAIDERS" era Oh Sees output.

According to all of the other press I've read I should insert something in here about how Thee Oh Sees put out a shit ton of music, but that's what a rock n' roll band is supposed to do. It's what a musician is supposed to do.

Duh, you make music. Putting out one album every couple of years is a cop out.

crystal swells - goethe head soup

You need to go download this PRONTO. Dare I say, this is crucial. Really out there, blown out rock n' roll. It's not just Oh Sees worship or any of that, these guys are just rocking out and loving it.

The album art kind of says it all.

Go download it and shut up.

fever

FEVER is the kind of band you want to put on when you're contemplating a slow, deliberately painful murder.

Dark as a fucking dungeon, but delicate enough to allow thought to shine through.

Elements of the Sixties are mixed in with an almost metal-esque drone. Think the Melvins covering the Velvets.

If you can't get a good idea from that description, I highly suggest you go listen to their demo. It's a slow burner, but if you're feeling evil or violent, it will get you through the day.

MUSIC /// TOTAL FANG

I'm loving this slowly building slimey layer of grime punk that is building around the world.

It makes me feel good about myself. Boners and all.

TOTAL FANG makes me feel that way.

Two dudes. Creeping it the fuck out.

Check it.

woven bones /// in and out and back again

FADER is streaming WOVEN BONES' debut album IN AND OUT AND BACK AGAIN and you should TOTALLY go check this shit out.

It doesn't quite have the grit of the singles or the MINUS TOUCH EP, but the songs are really fuckin' good. Slimy, grimy, bouncy, and punk as fuck

The album comes out on the 18th on HoZac. Hit it.

milksnake ///

MILKSNAKE warps my mind at midnight. He makes me see demons and think my face is melting.

MILKSNAKE enters my brain with a fork and has an epileptic fit.

You should listen to MILKSNAKE on cough syrup.

thee oh sees /// warm slime

WARM SLIME is a new THEE OH SEES release and it's so bitching I can't even tell you how bitching it is.

It's being released by IN THE RED and contains 7 tracks. One of those tracks is the 13 minute long title track which is a throw back to early OCS/OH SEES releases.

I would try and pick a "stand out" track from this, but they're all stand out.

Good job, Dwyer and Co.

flight /// ghosts

FLIGHT posted their new PLASTIC SPOONS RECORDS single, "GHOSTS" on their Myspace page and it's niiiiiiice. Sludgey, bouncy, and grimey as fuck. I'm a big fan of FLIGHT and PLASTIC SPOONS, so I'm really looking forward to getting a copy of this.

Get on that there link and feel the throbbin'.

yussuf jerusalem /// "with you in mind" + 2

YUSSUF JERUSALEM posted 3 news songs onto their Myspace page recently.

"WITH YOU IN MIND" is an a dark post-punk dirge of Joy Division-esque vibe.

"WE AIN'T COMING BACK" is a little more upbeat, but keeps with the post-punk vibe but injects some Johnny Thunders style guitar work.

"A HEART FULL OF SORROW" brings in some western cowboy vibes with steady strums and a slow rolling march.

If you're unfamiliar with this band of supposed hell raising Muslims, then I suggest you get on your Googler and check 'ems.

johnny buffalo and the mutinous noise ///

Johnny Buffalo and the Mutinous Noise is a dark ass band. Imagine really gothy country punk, recorded on the lo-fi cheap by some dudes who probably supply your entire neighborhood with meth AND moonshine.

That's what this sounds like.

It's good.

plastic spoons records ///

PLASTIC SPOONS RECORDS is keeping things mega weird and fucking awesome with constantly good releases. You'd be smart to check their shit out.

Plus their logo is beyond cool.

rayon beach /// the memory teeth

HoZac Records is pretty steady about releasing good shit. They don't reply to e-mails and might be too cool super dicks, but they have good taste. The new RAYON BEACH release, THE MEMORY TEETH, is proof of this.

Rayon Beach are from Austin and share kind of the same vibe as fellow Austinites, Woven Bones. Fuzzy, dark, weird, good.

Peep some of the songs from THE MEMORY TEETH over at their myskizz page and snag it from HoZac.

dirty dancing ///

Dirty Dancing is a band from Austin, Texas making scuzzy, grimy lo-fi punk dirges. I think that's accurate. They bring to mind The Kills a little, but deeper and darker. Their new album, "MEDIOCRITY IS THE STRONGEST INEVITABILITY" is seething with near evil vibes and is worth having. Total Grime Punk, Killwave, good shit.

bloodshot bill /// some weird french shit

Bloodshot Bill is in Paris right now on tour and some French website made this video/interview of him. It's totally cool and totally in English. The website, however, is all in French and made me feel like a moderate retard. Just click the big "PLAY" button.

Also, Bloodshot Bill will be doing a free digital single for my label, White Moon Recordings later in the year. For more on that, check out the White Moon Recordings blog (http://www.whitemoonrecordings.com)

bad indians ///

Maybe I'm behind the curve on this one, but Bad Indians are fucking awesome. Smokey, hazy Morricone influenced punk rock from New York. Look for the "LIVE FROM THE BURIAL MOUND" 12" EP cause that shit is naughty.

woven bones /// if it feels alright

Woven Bones have finished up their debut HoZac LP "IN AND OUT AND BACK AGAIN" and the preview track "If It Feels Alright" is up on their myskizz page now. The song is total Woven Bones, grimy, slimy, and punk as fuck. Give it a listen and if you're coming to Total Bummer, you'll get an earful of these cats.

st. dad /// keep it in your pants

St. Dad has a lot in common with the Taco Bell $5 Box. They're both greasy, foul, cheap, will give you a stomach ache, and they're both really fucking good.

These guys hail from the Jungle Rot home base of Gainesville and dare I say they are the real deal. No fucking fashion or style. No name dropping. Just raw ass noisy punk rock n' roll. These cats just finished up a long ass tour of the Eastern U.S. and I they're getting ready to release a split cassette with Orlando natives The Shreds (ex- Magic and the Johnsons) which I suggest you look into snagging. They've put up their first tape for free download and you can find that at the link below.

Get into these guys cuz they're gonna force themselves down your throat anyways.

gobble gobble /// lawn knives + end of days

To anyone who reads this blog it should be pretty well known that I, for the most part, do not like electronic music. I'm really trying to broaden my views on the genre and not be such a stubborn dick about it. GOBBLE GOBBLE is helping me with that resolution a whole hell of a lot. This dude Cecil is making some crazy catchy shit happen with these two new singles, "End Of Days" and "Lawn Knives". Both are crunchy, pulsing, and will stomp their pixelated boots into your ears. Give them a jam or two and let this cat know what up.

Also, GOBBLE GOBBLE's out of print tape, NEON GRAVEYARD, is available for free download below and I highly suggest getting it. If you're an electro hater like myself, it'll help ease you out of your comfort zone.
