commander keen

This guy might be more punk than all of us.

swimsuit

SWIMSUIT is a project from songwriter extraordinaire Fred Thomas (formerly of Saturday Looks Good To Me, etc) and is along the same lines of his previous work, but with a more bouncy punk vibe.

the pharmacy - weekend

FUCK. This record is SO GOOD.

Came out some time ago, but never saw it get much press. Go buy it, seriously.

sugarglider

Here's some bouncy, soft bedroom pop for you by way of Edmonton's SUGARGLIDER.

bad sounds

BAD SOUNDS mixes current pop vibes with some Tropicalia spice and a lot of Elephant 6 love.

A lot of sharp instrumentation going on here, so listen hard.

young wrists

Really, really good Italian twee, but if you listen to the lyrics this is some angst-y stuff.

Sounds like it could have come straight out of the 80's.

jody mulgrew

Upon hearing this I was flooded with heart broken high school memories.

It's very "pretty" and I wouldn't be surprised to hear it in a romantic comedy at some point.

Don't have a fit. Not everything should sound like Black Lips.

staring problem

It's 11:30pm and I'm getting old and falling asleep.

Go paint a black cross on your forehead and get all goth poppy with STARING PROBLEM.

the spook school

It is so refreshing to hear original "twee" influenced music. Bands like VIVIAN GIRLS have all but killed the sound with half assed songs and their lazy eyes, but THE SPOOK SCHOOL seems to actually care about what they're doing.

AND they're Scottish!

Recommended if you like THE PASTELS, SHOP ASSISTANTS, SARAH RECORDS.

puberty - invitations

New band from INTELLIGENCE mastermind Lars Finberg. Super good stuff. Grab the 7" from TELEPHONE EXPLOSION RECORDS.

sans aids

SANS AIDS plays a familiar brand of dark, reverb tinged "indie" rock, in the vein of bands like Interpol.

Unlike Interpol, however, SANS AIDS carries an organic sound with more natural sinister vibes floating through out their 6 song cassette.

Grab a copy of "LOANERS" from the bands Bancamp page.

service:fair

SERVICE:FAIR is a group out of Edmonton, Alberta bringing the 90's pop vibes.

If you're into bands like YUCK then you'll love these kids for sure.

The 7 song "It Ended Badly" is a great listen from beginning to end.

Give it your ears at their Bandcamp.

They sent me an advanced copy and I haven't stopped listening since.

Take a peek at this totally fucked up video of "ONLY YOU".

MUSIC /// CRAIG DOUGLAS - TEENAGER IN LOVE

This is a true classic American pop song from 1959. Vibe on it.

You should get it.

MUSIC /// BURNT ONES

BURNT ONES debut album, "BLACK TEETH AND GOLDEN TONGUES" is a fuzzy, dreamy, rock n' roll romp.

Obvious influence by T REX, JESUS AND MARY CHAIN, and doo wop melodies.

The whole album is a great listen from start to finish.

Listen to "BLACK TEETH AND GOLDEN TONGUES" at his BandCamp.

MUSIC /// ORPHEUS KNOXX

ORPHEUS KNOXX brings a refreshing perspective on the current 80's goth revival, opting for natural instrumentation ala post-punk bands such as JOY DIVISION and THE CURE.

"ICE CREAM" displays a lush, yet subtle instrumentation with classically UK female vocals.

Sweet like C86 twee, but wrapped in a button down cardigan black as pitch.

MUSIC /// SEAN MOORE - ASHLEY

SEAN MOORE has been mentioned on this blog before, but not under his birth name. Sean is a member of South Florida based dream pop crew VIERNES.

Sean was nice enough to drop this solo track into our box and I'm digging it.

Tinges of Elephant Six song writing with swells of beautifully arranged music swirling behind Sean's McCartney-esque croon.

MUSIC /// NEW WEEZER

So, WEEZER has announced that their debut album on EPITAPH will be called "Hurley" and the cover image is a picture of...well, Hurley from the TV show LOST.

Retarded? Yes.

But, give this first song a listen. For me, it says that Weezer /may/ be back writing at least "Green" level material, which is good.

Everyone hated "Green" when it came out, but then "Maladroit" came out and everyone was like, "Oh, green wasn't so bad in comparison." But then all these other shit piles came out and like just about everyone else; I gave up.

Anyways, get your ears turned on and listen to "MEMORIES" below.

MUSIC /// Spirit Night

I haven't quite got this one figured out yet. Each track is a little different, but I'm definitely digging what SPIRIT NIGHT has going on.

The recording quality is nice and the songs are crisp.

Recommended if you like GALAXIE 500, BEAT HAPPENING, but it doesn't exactly sound like those bands.

Check it out.
