the crippler

Crush Your Cupcake were a band in Gainesville, Florida during 2007 and the band was comprised of Gainesville punk alum. The album they recorded for Arkain Records is one of the heaviest, balls out noisy punk albums I've ever heard. It's also mega catchy and I think you'll find yourself listening to it over and over again.

If you dig the Melvins and Stooges this is for your. Hit up Arkain Records for other free downloads:

devil worship

The Ex-Boogeymen are some Gainesville locals that I would stab a motherfucker for. True cats with rock n' roll in their blood (and god knows what else.) They're bringing it all home with some real Goth'd out pop with dirty 60's vibes and style all their own. They supposedly have an album finished but who knows where the fuckin' thing is, so hit 'em up and ask them. Three songs are up on their myspace page and I swear you'll feel it in your ass when they get goin'. If you live in Florida, do your best to catch 'em like the greasy fuckin' virus they are. When I say Grime Punk, this is what I mean.

graveyard cities

Savages happens to be composed of some of my buds from around Gainesville, BUT they also happen to be one of the best bands in this dump of a town. If shoegaze and swirly pop sounds are your bag, then these fellers are where you want to be. They just released their debut EP, Graveyard Cities, which can be downloaded in full from the link below. I'm not gonna compare this to My Bloody Valentine because it's better than that schlock. Fuzzed out vocals, major sonic acrobatics, sweet jams.

If you're in Florida, try to make it out to a show sometime.

chillwave is bullshit

Chillwave? What the fuck is this all about? Boring "songs" being played by stoned out dorks living in their parents basements? This genre seems to range from droning synth sounds with mumbling overtop it to songs being cut up in Garageband and retooled to be, well, boring.

I'm all for ambience, but not complacency. Chillwave appears to be intentionally boring and boring seems to be a new trend and to that I say Fuuuuck Nooo.

Keep it grime, baby.

the man from planet x

for some reason, a lot of lo-fi music is coming out of texas at the moment. denton and dallas fort worth being the hot spots, which is odd to me. i have family in fort worth and from what i know of the area, it's kind of stale. either way, though, there are some interesting sounds blowing out of that town. not all of them are good, though. some are just rehashings of what is "cool" in blog land, but a few are really making some cool shit.

one of those cool shit bands is THE JESUS FURS, aka brandon hoffman, a (from what i can tell) weird kid from denton making noisy, reverb'd out TUNES. these are SONGS people, not just a dude with garage band farting into a computer mic with the "surf" filter on. anyways, check out this cat's myspace page and dig on songs like "GRAVEYARD GHOST" and "TREMOR TREAT".

cold french fries

Jeffery over at KICKBRIGHT ZINE did a write up of this years POPMayhem! Fest. There's a little bit about the Heavy Hands and a picture of us playing. Check it out here: http://www.kickbrightzine.com

Jeffery is also in the band HOT HANDS with his fiance', Kristin. The band has toured the south east two times, to my knowledge and they have a self released cassette which is available at their shows and I think through the Kickbright website. They turn out some pretty solid noisy garage pop and they're loud as shit live, so bring ear plugs. Give them a listen over here: http://www.myspace.com/hothandsband

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

In other news, we've expanded TRASH BASH to a 2 night ordeal. It turns out that we really had too many bands to fit into afternoon/night, so the new dates for this shindig are OCTOBER 2ND AND 3RD.

October 2nd will be held at WAYWARD COUNCIL and will start around 10pm. The line-up for this first night is still being worked out, but it will be a rockin' kick off!

October 3rd will be at THE KICKSTAND and will start around 4pm.

I made french fries for lunch and didn't bake them long enough. Shit.

Another Heavy Hands review over at GET OFF THE COAST. Check it hurr: http://getoffthecoast.blogspot.com/2009/08/photo-credit-giancarlo-dalessandro-if.html

Should have a photo post coming later today. Finally got an old digital camera of mine working again, so I've been snapping shit all morning. Look forward to plenty of blurry pictures of skeletons and drum kits.

Also, listen to Gemini Cricket. They're friends of ours from Athens, GA making some sweet ass tunes. Plus they're mega nice people.

luv,
