wreck

If you send me pretentious sounding bullshit "self reviews" about how "deep" and "moody" your electronic jams are, I probably won't post it.

Why? Because it's fucking stupid.

And I like things like this better.

the rodeo idiot engine

You won't see GORILLA VS BEAR posting this shit or ALTERED ZONES, nope.

But we post it. You know why? Because we've got a set of heavy ass nuts.

THE RODEO IDIOT ENGINE is a brutal, grinding, hardcore explosion from FRANCE.

Also, they're on a label called THROATRUINER RECORDS. Now THAT is some serious shit.

burden me

When's the last time you heard some decent post-hardcore? I don't mean any of that shit in Hot Topic being passed up as post-hardcore, but the real deal.

BURDEN ME brings that real deal. They remind me of SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE, QUICKSAND, and bands of that ilk.

Give them a chance and remember a day when not all music on the internet was "lo-fi" or "blissed out reverb jams".

MUSIC /// CEREMONY - ROHNERT PARK

So, the year is winding down and I'll be doing some posts on my favorite releases of 2010, as opposed to some gigantic list.

Anyways, CEREMONY released their 3rd album ROHNERT PARK earlier this year through BRIDGE 9 and damn what a record.

Hardcore is being reinvented and it's most minimal and primitive ideology is being embraced by bands like CEREMONY, FUCKED UP, and the sadly now deceased ST. DAD, leaving us with music that doesn't sound any specific way, but is no less hard hitting and in your face.

ROHNERT PARK carries with it the swagger of early American proto punk and garage bands such as THE SONICS or THE MONKS, who were, in my book, more "hardcore" than any band ALTERNATIVE PRESS is pushing these days.

Anyways, enough ranting. This album is bound to be a classic and already is in my book. Snag it from BRIDGE 9 on white vinyl for $12.00.

Does it get any better than that?

MUSIC /// Shape Shifter

YARCH!!! This is my first post here on JR!

My name is Dan, what is yours? Do you like me, I like you?

SHAPE SHIFTER

On Don Giovani records. Not sure if they're around anymore but I really love their 7". Super tight songs with catchy riffs peppered throughout. Makes me want to jump off of my futon and thrash. What more do you want from a hardcore band?

You can listen to the 7" on their myspace page.

attack attack! /// ac-130 vocal covers

The ennui of summer is officially here. Across the nation, barely pubescent boys with screen names like "xXxHardcoreWankerxXx" & "xXxPen15ShredderxXx" have locked themselves in their parents' study to record themselves singing bad hardcore screamo songs.

Check out more of the goods:

The kid with the tank takes the cake. He has it all. The Justin Bieber hair. The killer pipes. And one-man band air instrument skillzzzz!

What did I learn from all of this?

Attack Attack! is right. I am better off dead.

spray paint ///

Back in 1982, three Canadian brothers got jacked up on candy, listened to a bunch of Black Flag, and started a band using a guitar, some drums, and a boom box.

That band is called SPRAY PAINT and it's a totally amazing glimpse into the life of teenage punk rockers in the Reagan 80's.

Songs range from topics such as gang wars, hating the president, and slam dancing.

Dig on these punk rock fossils and start your own band.

Richmond, VA's BRAINWORMS have called it quits. That's a major bummer because those dudes were major kick ass. Spazzy, down home punk rock with mathy hardcore shit thrown in there. Check out the music on their myskizz and order what's still available from RORSCHACH RECORDS.

sensible nectar /// various

If you're into psychotic wacko possible serial killer noise music, then Sensible Nectar is your fucking jam. Justin Lloyd has a ton of musical personifications, all varying levels of noise, but Sensible Nectar is a more minimal style of the genre, using from what I can tell mostly just a guitar, vocals, and a shit ton of pedals. Imagine Prurient with a little more going on.
I totally suggest giving it a listen. The entire SN discography is up for download at the linker below.

punkin' chunkin'

Jheri over at Get Off The Coast tipped me off about these guys, who call themselves Golden Girls.

They're making some old school sounding punk rock with a good helping of 80's hardcore floating around in there. The songs on their page have titles like "TEENAGE RAPE FANTASYYY" and "AMATEUR TEEN SEX ATTICS", so it seems like their minds are in the right place.

Plus, they have a picture of naked women riding skateboards on their page. That alone is worth checking out.

Dig on 'em and let them know what you think!
