the dead weather /// sea of cowards live listening party

THE DEAD WEATHER is playing their new album, SEA OF COWARDS in it's entirety on their website right.

This shit is AMAZING!

Totally can't wait until this album drops.

-WT

ancient river /// under the sun

Ancient River happens to be one of my favorite new bands and certainly one of the best Gainesville bands. They have abandoned the concept of hip to make the dying art form we call "rock n' roll music". The compulsory band comparisons lead me to Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dead Meadow, and Neil Young.

Any given live show by this three-piece will be highlighted by:

gut-busting drums,

classic reverb vox,

intimate bass,

and wah-wah laden guitar solos.

In fact, at my first live AR show, I was asked by a stranger if "everything [was] alright" because I was so catatonically swept away by the GIANT sound. The AR guys did a fantastic job translating all that is sacred about the live show on to their latest record Under the Sun. In a meer seven songs, AR takes you on a journey through the nether regions of their sonic landscape. At moments you find yourself buried in a wall of sound and other moments you are basking in open space. The highlight of the album is most definitely "Eye to I". If the radio was worth a damn these days, this song would be on it. It is soulful, catchy, and classic.

Check out "Eye to I" and other songs @ AR MySpace.

If you like the music, support 'em by following the PayPal link on their MySpace page.

mr. independent ///

Florida's current governor, CHARLIE CRIST announced today that he will be running for SENATE not as a Republican, which was his affiliation, but will instead run as an INDEPENDENT. This comes as sort of a shock since CRIST was being firmly backed by the GOP for the senate race.

CRIST himself suggested his decision is not so much a big deal to him as it is a glimpse into the future of our countries so beloved PARTY POLITICS.

CRIST isn't a complete douchebag, as far as "former" GOP members go. He recently brought a lot of happiness to FLA teachers when he vetoed a bill calling for teacher's pay to be based on student's test scores (which was a total bullshit bill in the first place.)

With a President pushing for non-partisan co-operation among politicians, could this be something we'll be seeing more of or is it just a really bad career move?

Could be fun to watch.

-WT

freddy ain't no chump ///

Is it just me or does this new FREDDY KRUEGER look like a bitch ass loser?

The NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake comes out tomorrow and I'm skeptical. I don't wanna get all Harry Knowles on this shit, but what's the deal with all these fucking re-ups?

The NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series DOES NOT, I repeat, DOES NOT need to be remade. Robert Englund was and IS the perfect Freddy Krueger. When I was a kid I was so scared of that fucking dude that I firmly believed in real life he had slaughtered and eaten his entire family (probably because my cousins told me so) and it just made watching FREDDY movies 100x scarier.

Maybe the new movie won't suck, but it DEFINITELY won't have the charm of the old films.

Peace.

-WT

coyotes ///

Where I live people generally consider COYOTES (pronounced ky-otes around here) to be a nuisance. If you have chickens or any kind of yard fowl then they really can be, I personally think they're really cool.

It's fun to sit outside at night and occasionally get to hear a few of them howling at the moon. They're more yelpy than a WOLF.

The point of this post is mostly that I just like COYOTES.

Anybody looking for some solid yet diverse punk rock should check out Canada's MESS FOLK. These guys range from skronky funky punk to Germs-esque fuck the world blow outs.

The band has released 7"'s and cassettes through such esteemed labels as HOZAC, PLASTIC SPOONS, and SCOTCH TAPES.

There is a MESS FOLK LP scheduled for release sometime in the future, though I'm not sure on what label.

If you're unfamiliar with these unpredictable rock n' rollers, hit 'em up.

yussuf jerusalem /// "with you in mind" + 2

YUSSUF JERUSALEM posted 3 news songs onto their Myspace page recently.

"WITH YOU IN MIND" is an a dark post-punk dirge of Joy Division-esque vibe.

"WE AIN'T COMING BACK" is a little more upbeat, but keeps with the post-punk vibe but injects some Johnny Thunders style guitar work.

"A HEART FULL OF SORROW" brings in some western cowboy vibes with steady strums and a slow rolling march.

If you're unfamiliar with this band of supposed hell raising Muslims, then I suggest you get on your Googler and check 'ems.

losers ///

Some whiner felt the need to post a comment to our HEIDI MONTAG HOOTERS post telling us he was deleting his "quick link" to JUNGLE ROT. I'm wondering why?

Is it because I felt the need to post a picture of this woman's ridiculous plastic surgery tits? Are tits offensive to hipsters?

I myself am a hetero dude and I think tits are awesome. If we had a gay writer and he wanted to post pictures of giant cocks, then he would be more than welcome. Hell, maybe I'll post pictures of giant cocks and e-mail the link to that whiney fucker.

Am I sexist? No, I'm not. I just think it's insane how far people will go to change their looks and Heidi Montag has gone to RETARDED lengths to enhance her breasts (among other things) to Barbie style proportions. Ultimately, she's unattractive to me. I was just amazed at how gigantic her tits have become.

But I ask you, was the now long gone BUTTERXFACE blog sexist when they posted pictures of bow tied muscle men standing around a pool? I don't think so. They were being wild liberated women who "didn't give a fuck".

Well let me just say that, here at JUNGLE ROT, our philosophy is not giving a fuck. If this blog offends thee, pluck it out. If we're luke warm water in your mouth, spew us out, you pretentious shits.

You PC fake ass posers will see. Your time is coming.

chicago /// police state?

Apparently folks in CHI-TOWN won't stop fucking each other up.

There has been a reported surge of violence in 2010 and we're only barely at MAY.

Chicago politicians and residents are asking for the GOVERNMENT to send in the NATIONAL GUARD to help back up the police.

Would this make CHICAGO a police state? If this happens, will it mean that any time a city can't handle it's own problems we send in the fucking ARMY?

We'll see I guess.

the dead weather /// die by the drop

THE DEAD WEATHER have posted their new single, "DIE BY THE DROP", to their Myspace player and it's pretty sick. I could do without the synths and some of the 70's-esque stuff, but over all it's a damn cool song.

Their sophomore album, SEA OF COWARDS, hits stores MAY 11TH and if this single is any indication of what the album sounds like, shit should be wild.

-WT

dead ghosts ///

Vancouver's DEAD GHOSTS are jamming things out with swagger. Loooads of swagger. The songs on their Myspace page scream of Nuggets gems and spaghetti westerns. "BLAK KAT" keeps things pumping with a Gories style beat and plenty of reverbed squawking. These guys are a band I'm definitely watching and I can't wait for a full length.

They have a few 7"'s out and one is a split with THE SMITH WESTERNS (cool, right?).

Also, there is a live set available through THUNDERINGFEET. Grab that below.

Give 'em a dig.

audacity /// no future

California's AUDACITY have uploaded what appears to be a new song, called "NO FUTURE". The song is 60's influenced than the songs on POWER DROWNING and it's totally raw and fun.

These guys are seriously on the ball, as POWER DROWNING is one of the coolest albums I've heard in a while.

Head to their Myspace and check out the new track, dudes.

grocery bag ///

So, I'm sure everyone has heard the YOUNG MONEY song, "BEDROCK", right? And there's that part in Gudda Gudda's verse where he just ends shit with "...grocery bag", right?

I always wonder what the fuck that means. Maybe I'm not hearing something? I assume maybe he's saying he banged this girl, got her in the "bag" or whatever, but it really just sounds too random to make a real connection there.

My curiosity got the best of me, finally, and I looked this shit up on URBAN DICTIONARY and there's a whole list of things that the term "GROCERY BAG" apparently can mean.

My favorite is the "nut sack jack off".

-WT

John Dickerson over at Slate wrote up a very nice piece on a small time musical act called Girlyman. I don't particularly care for this band. Regardless, the story does a good job illustrating the struggles and triumphs of being a small touring band.

ariel pink /// what the fuck is up?

So, ARIEL PINK. Why does everyone have such a hard on for this fey little weiner? His music sounds as weak as Stephen Hawking's throwing arm. Fluffy sounding 80's esque synths and shit. Fuck all that.

I remember hearing some of his earlier stuff when I was in high school and it was waaay weird and noisy and I dug that a lot more than this crap.

Everyone is all boner for this record he has coming out, but I honestly think it's just perpetuating the problem of wimpy, faux-arty, pussy rock.

Let's fight.

EDIT: Also, this shit is on 4AD? The fuck? REALLY? You guys over there at 4AD need to get your cocks out of your hands and go see some real bands.  Get in touch with me, you big suits. I'll give you a list.
